Happy April!
It's time for our monthly coffee date, co-hosted by my friends Coco and Deborah. Stop by their blogs to visit the rest of the linkup. In the meantime, pull up a chair and let's catch up. It's been a busy, and somewhat sad, month.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you...
My mother-in-law recently passed away. When I think of her, I think of her kind and generous spirit. I think of how loving she was to her family, and how her family extended far beyond the customary definition. She cared about everyone. In particular, I think of the love she had for our son. I think of her sitting on the floor with him to color, reading to him, coming to watch him at swimming lessons. Looking at the two of them together was simply delightful. Our hearts are sad.Read her obituary here.

The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run is this weekend. This is a busy time for me as the social media traffic and questions pick up and we push out all of the important information on our social media channels, not to mention covering the expo and the race.
This year it has been even more hectic with participants worrying about a potential snow event (so. many. questions.) and because my mother-in-law's services are right in the middle of race weekend. I am especially grateful to Heather, who has created countless last-minute graphics this week and is covering for me on Saturday while I am with my family.

I created a "happy box" to keep me smiling. I got a catalog from Natural Life, a company I hadn't heard of before. Wow, do they have some fun things that really speak to me! I know I'm supposed to be decluttering, but I couldn't resist these happiness reminders. The sloths are my favorite. If we were having coffee, I would tell you...
I want to run a strong race and push my pace to the edge of my comfort level. I can do that in an 8k, but not in a half marathon. After I made the decision, I felt so much lighter and actually started feeling excited about the upcoming race.

We should catch up more often! Let's plan to have coffee again on May 5.
So sorry for your loss Kim. I am sure this is a very difficult time for you. Thankfully it looks like the weather is much improved and the race will be just fabulous. Thanks for all your hard work! I've loved being part of the team
ReplyDeleteThank you for the condolences, Deborah. Thank you for being such a great ambassador for #CUCB2018!
DeleteSo sorry about your mother-in-law. She sounds like a great woman. I'm amazed at how well you've stayed on top of everything. I love the Garmin Cherry Blossom watch face so much!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Coco. I appreciate the extra help on Saturday at the Expo while I was out, and all of your work as #CUCB2018 Twitter point.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Patrick, I appreciate your thoughts. The weather was good - a little cold, but no snow or other precipitation & beautiful blossoms.
DeleteSo sorry for the loss of your mother-in-law, Kim. Having just lost my grandmother, I can relate to that sadness right now. Sending hugs.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good race at Cherry Blossom, glad to hear that you guys don't have to deal with crazy snow. Look forward to hearing about it later.
Thank you for the hugs, Shannon. I'm sorry for your loss of your grandmother. Sending hugs back to you :)
DeleteI am very sorry for your loss. And I think you made a wise decision about the race. Pushing too hard when times are difficult isn't always wise, for sure.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Judy :)

ReplyDeleteThank you, Kristen. The happiness box sure did come at the right time :)

DeleteSo very sorry for your loss, Kim. Sorry I missed you on Sunday and I now understand why I did not see you on Saturday. Thanks for all YOU do. Good luck on your 8K.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Gina! Wish I had seen you this weekend. Let me know what races you are going to do with your PR Pass so we can meet up soon :)
DeleteIm so sorry for your loss. I hope you had an amazing time in DC - I keep seeing reports for this race, it gave me some serious race FOMO
ReplyDeleteThank you for the condolences. I appreciate it :)
DeleteDC is a pretty awesome place to run a race. I'm a native, so I sometimes take it for granted. Maybe you can come run the race and see the cherry blossoms next year!
Good luck in Boston on Monday - I can't even begin to imagine how incredible that will be.
I'm so sorry for your loss! <3 :[
ReplyDeleteThat "happy box" is super cute--I love the sloth too, haha. :]! I'm going to be running an 8k this weekend--not sure how well it's gonna go since I haven't exactly been training! ._.
I hope your 8k is great! At least it is a short enough distance that you can still do it and have fun no matter what your training was like :)
DeleteSo sorry to hear about your loss. Your mother-in-law sounds like a very special lady. Your happy box looks so fun, though! Good luck with your upcoming 8k! Sounds like you made a good decision.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Clarinda :)
