Ultimate Coffee Date: January 2018

Happy New Year!

After years of reading other bloggers' ultimate coffee date posts, I'm finally joining the party co-hosted by my friends Coco and Deborah. Better late than never, right?

Stop by their blogs to visit the rest of the linkup!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you...

I've missed blogging. Last year I was inconsistent at best, due to running challenges, too many commitments, and misplaced priorities. In 2018, I'm going to write more often.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you...

I've started working with a life coach, Elena Sonnino. She is helping me with those misplaced priorities and overwhelming commitments. These are the goals I've identified as a starting point:
  • Find ways to let go of stress and stop living in "fight or flight" mode
  • Find more joy in my daily life
  • Develop realistic expectations about how much I can do and ways to proactively choose what those limited things are
  • Learn how to stand up for myself more effectively
  • Start prioritizing self care

If we were having coffee, I would tell you...

I'm doing a 30-day yoga challenge, True Yoga With Adriene. This fits under the category of "prioritizing self care." My family has been supportive; my cat has been part of the challenge!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you...

I'm training for a half-marathon. I didn't run anything longer than a 10k in 2016 or 2017, and I only ran a handful of races each year. Now that I've figured out how to manage hallux rigidus, it's time to see if my toe can handle a longer distance.

I'm going to train with Potomac River Running's Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run training program in Reston, but of course I can't run Cherry Blossom since I'm the social media coordinator for the race! My goal race is the inaugural National Women's Half Marathon, which is a few weeks after Cherry Blossom.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you...

We should catch up more often! Let's plan to have coffee again on February 3.

  2. Glad to see you back at blogging and joining us for the coffee date today. I'd love to hear more about your yoga challenge. I am always trying to make time to add a little more yoga into my life. Yay for training for the half race. I will be doing that 8k that day. It's got to warm up by then right?!

  5. So glad you joined us! It is so easy to over-commit and when you want to do a good job with everything you tend to put yourself last. Sounds like you have a good plan to get yourself re-prioritized.

    1. Thanks! Your help with CUCB has helped so much with re-prioritizing this year. I feel far less overwhelmed.

  6. Welcome to the coffee date! Your cat lounging on your Yoga mat cracks me up ...my black lab loves to get in on the action when I'm doing any type of exercise on the floor!

Good luck with your half marathon and hope that toe cooperates!

  7. I'd love to have a life coach. I kind of feel like I'm stuck in a rut. Getting out of the fight or flight mode would be great!

PS If you're looking to connect with other running bloggers, I'm co-hosting a Weekly Wrap link up on Sundays. Most people post their weekly training. It's a big link up and very interesting!

Thank you for the weekly wrap up invite! I hope to join soon. Right now my wrap ups would be a little too empty :)

  8. I have a few doggie helpers/photo bombers any time I get on the floor to do anything. Training for a half marathon is exciting! It's my favorite distance. (Ditto what Wendy said above -- I'm the other cohost. We'd love for you to join us.)

  11. Welcome to the coffee date! I thought your name was new when I saw your comment on my blog. :)

I love the find joy daily and prioritize self-care goals! The #YWATRUE program has been so great, hasn't it?! Definitely good for your self-care goal with all the emphasis on breathing and making it a whole body experience.

    1. Thank you for the welcome and for recognizing I was new!

#YWATRUE today was the "kindle" practice. It was a little more energetic than some of the others. I was glad it was a shorter one :)

  12. I'll bet working with a life coach will be amazing! Self care is always difficult. Shouldn't be, of course, but it is! Animals do love yoga, though. :)

That half sounds like a lot of fun!

    1. I've been thinking a bit about why self care is so difficult. I think part of it has to do with the blurry line between self care and selfish. My logical mind knows that self care isn't selfish, but I subconsciously feel selfish when I'm focusing on myself.
