from Survive to Thrive: Week 8

Welcome to from Survive to Thrive: Week 8!

My stress readings were higher this week than they are for a typical work week! That's just how the holidays tend to be for me. Enjoyable, but draining.

Let's review my week...

Happiness Project

Although Gretchen Rubin's Happiness Project Experience course doesn't officially kickoff until later in the week, I've gotten started already. January's focus is on self-knowledge. Things I've been working on as part of the course include:

  • Answering self-reflection questions
  • Selecting a one-word theme for the year
  • Exploring personality quizzes such as the Enneagram Test
  • Developing a list of 20 things I want to do in 2020

My Enneagram results

I'll talk about this more and share some of my ideas next week. If you are interested in taking the course, use coupon code REFZPJ4KCVJ86 for $25 off.

Celebrations

Each year I forget how draining it is to schedule, prepare for, and be fully present for our many holiday celebrations. It's wonderful to see everyone and I'm really grateful that we are able to get together throughout the week. Next year I'm going to focus on reducing my holiday stress level.

Coloring

The fun highlight of my week was meeting my friend Michelle for coloring and conversation. We enjoyed a really cute Sloth coloring book (thank you to Melinda for finding it and giving it to me for my birthday)!

Decluttering

I made good decluttering progress this week. One thing we did was sort all of our Duplo LEGOs into sets so we can get ready to sell them. It was fun separating the pieces and rebuilding the sets. It's a little sad that we have outgrown the Duplos. Here are pictures of just a few of the many sets we have:

gas station, post office, supermarket,
never land hideout
circus and rhino/lion creatures
only a few of the sets still have boxes

Fitness

I walked once this week (my Achilles is still a little sore) and only did yoga twice. Thinking I would do yoga every day like I did the previous week was unrealistic! As I've already mentioned, I forget how hectic Christmas week is.

This week will be better. On Friday, Yoga with Adriene's free 30-day yoga program "Home" begins. I'm looking forward to starting it. I'm also looking forward to the Potomac River Running 31 miles in 31 days challenge.

Looking Ahead

This week, I'm getting back on track with my eating and fitness goals. I'm also preparing for my basal cell carcinoma surgery, which is scheduled for Thursday.

My goals for the week are:
  1. Track everything I eat in MyFitnessPal
  2. Do my morning routine every day
  3. Run/walk at least once, do yoga at least three times
  4. Work on Happiness Project activities

See you next week!
