Invest in Myself: Week 20

Welcome to the recap of Invest in Myself, Week 20.

This week started out fairly calm but got crazier as the week went on. I'm so glad it's finally the weekend!

Let's review my week...

Motivation & Accountability

I'm up a half pound this week, but I'm hopeful that it's mainly water weight from eating sodium-laden food at my NYC meetings these last few days.

For week 20 of the Real Appeal program we focused on the benefits of tracking weight, food, and exercise. I know it's been an important component of my success these past 20 weeks. I haven't missed a day of tracking since I started. It keeps me mindful of the choices I'm making and helps me stay accountable.

Nutrition

I made good food choices for most of the week. I had a couple of weak moments in NYC when my willpower was low. On Thursday I made great choices during dinner despite many temptations, but when I got to my room after dinner I found a plate with five different cookies that the hotel left as an apology for giving me a room that was missing some of the basics like a chair and a suitcase stand. I had a small bite of each cookie just to see what flavors they were.

The ironic apology that actually made me feel worse...

Exercise

I ran twice and walked once. The walk was during my lunch hour at work with my colleague Sue. We walked with the ZO. wellness program that is sponsored by our building management (Tishman Speyer). This was the inaugural Run Club event and gave us the perfect opportunity to get out and enjoy the fresh air.

The ZO. Run Club attracted more walkers than runners

Self-Care

I looked for opportunities to bring some fun into my stressful days this week. One thing I enjoyed was building Frankie the Cat with my son and programming him with LEGO BOOST to do things like purr, wave his tail, and sing happy birthday.

A second thing I enjoyed was binge-watching all 10 episodes of the Netflix show Dead to Me while I was traveling. It was riveting and made my flights seem shorter. I hope it gets picked up for a second season!

One thing that made me ridiculously happy was this small appeel notebook I got at my meeting at W2O on Thursday. It's made with the residuals and peels of apples. It's completely sustainable and it even smells like apples (in a good, subtle way - not an overbearing migraine-causing way).

Looking Ahead

Next week will be busy, with a lot of days in DC rather than telecommuting. It's for a great reason, though; we have a new Research Associate starting on Monday and I'm really looking forward to helping her get acclimated.

My trip to Baltimore was cancelled since I have so much work to do this week...it was the best way to make some white space on my calendar. It would have been a fun trip, but I'm grateful to have the extra time to work and to not be away from home.

See you next week!
