from Survive to Thrive: Week 18

Welcome to from Survive to Thrive: Week 18.

This week I rediscovered music as part of my Happiness Project, masqueraded as a crafty mom, prioritized family & friends, and tested out some new running shoes.

Let's review my week...

Happiness Project

This week I completed the February reflection exercises for my Happiness Project and started the March resolutions. I kept some of my February resolutions, but completely forgot about others.

One of the resolutions I forgot about was listening to a song when I was feeling low energy or unfocused. I spent some music-focused time this week:

  • downloaded songs onto my new Garmin Forerunner 245 Music (#sponsored - thank you Garmin Fitness!)
  • listened to music during all three of my running workouts this week (definitely helped with energy and motivation!)
  • rediscovered my favorite Pandora station (Aztec Camera - Working in a Goldmine is one of my all-time favorite songs)
  • found the RockMyRun mix I listened to during the Marine Corps Marathon (recap) after Debbie and I parted ways at mile 20 (Celebrity Playlist Dave Aude: Audacious 80s Vol. 2 - I will always remember the feeling of running during Mile 23 to Journey's Only the Young)

It was really easy to download & listen to music!
(I paired my watch with AfterShokz headphones)

Fitness

I ran three times this week and got to test out new shoes at PR.

  • On Tuesday night New Balance came to our track workout and I ran the whole thing in 880v10s. I used to run in 880v7s, but stopped when version 8 came out. I liked version 10 and might switch back.

  • On Sunday Altra came to our Cherry Blossom long run training and I ran a test mile in the Torin 4 Plush. They felt okay, but I didn't want to risk running 6 more miles in a zero drop shoe I wasn't accustomed to, so I switched back to my Hoka Clifton 6s for the rest of my run.

I've made a lot of progress on the PR Spring Bucket List challenge. I've run 20 miles (out of 100), attended a PR fun run, ran in the rain, ran with a friend, and caught the sunset during a run.

Family & Friends

One of the priorities I set for the week was time with family and friends. My son had "book character day" at school and wanted to be "Leon" from "Brawl Stars." We ordered a green hoodie and some felt and made his costume! He designed it and cut out all of the felt pieces, and I ironed them on with fusing tape. I am not a "crafty mom," so I was especially proud of our accomplishment and that he actually wore it.

On Saturday we had a girls lunch which I thoroughly enjoyed. We had a lot of catching up to do! I'm happier when I make the time to see my friends and share stories about what is going on in our lives.

Looking Ahead

This week will be a little busy. We have a Cherry Blossom Race Committee meeting on Monday night. We are less than a month out from the race, which is always a busy time, but having to consider and prepare for COVID-19 scenarios makes it even more busy.

At work we are preparing for construction/extended time out of the office, so there is a lot of packing and decluttering happening. I made time on Wednesday to clean up my office and threw a ton of stuff away - it was awesome! I also just hired a new Research Assistant (yay!) so there is a lot to do to get ready for his first day on the 16th.

My goals for the week are:
  1. Get up without hitting snooze (every day)
  2. Do shoulder strengthening exercises (1-2 times)
  3. Use Thrive journal for brain dump and intention setting
  4. Prioritize friends & family

See you next week!

  1. I wear the Torins and love them! I hope you can make the switch to them. I've been wearing for about four years now.

And I LOVE Freddy's book character costume! So fun and cute!
